Candidates must have a PhD or equivalent in African Studies or any related fields in the Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, and the ability to teach general African Studies courses at a postgraduate level, and supervise academic work by graduate students.

Experience of undertaking academic research of high quality in the area of African Studies or allied disciplines, and undertaking ongoing research in Sub-Saharan Africa focusing on contemporary issues in Sub-Saharan Africa, including legacies of the colonial era is essential.
